I was already an hour late. I clicked on the map link inside the e-invitation and drove like mad to make it to my second ATX Blogger Mixer at Raven + Lily.
I was so excited to get to see their new store and what kind of accessories my closet might need.
Honestly, last time I went to a blogger gathering I felt like I looked like everyone’s preppy mom.
But this time I had a new dress with jewelry on, so at least I felt like I was somewhere on the playing field.
When I showed up I pulled on the door and it was locked. I frantically pulled my phone out to examine the map. The linked map was set to their anchor location and the party was being held at their new location about 20 minutes away.
I fretted as sweat began to pour down my freshly made up face . What should I do? The party was going to end soon yet I had been so looking forward to my second mixer, if only to get a re-do from My First ATX Blogger Mixer.
I manually plugged the store’s new address into my GPS and sped away determined to make it. I thought I should go anyway, you never know what you might miss. Isn’t there an acronym for this, like fear of missing out?
Note to self, it’s a good idea to double check your GPS links and make sure they’re updated or just manually type in the address.
I arrived with a good 45 minutes left in the mixer.
The Raven + Lily store is beautiful in every way. Raven + Lily was created to alleviate poverty among women. They help employ over 1,500 marginalized women at fair trade wages. Their products are hand made and follow fair trade standards.
Meet my new retail crush. With everything from home goods, jewelry to handbags and clutches.
Shortbread Baking Co. provided these oh so cute cookies!
As I mingled throughout the store, I wondered if I’d meet anyone who could relate to my struggles on this blogging thing.
Then I bumped into a young food blogger as we were eying the same pair of earrings. We laughed and talked about each other’s blogs.
She introduced me to another blogger whose focus is supporting moms who breastfeed and another who runs a great Facebook group for mom bloggers. She graciously invited me to join the group of creative women who support each other. We chit chatted for a bit.
But what I realized in that moment is that it really doesn’t matter what our niche is, where we come from, or what our background is. We have this one thing in common and yes, we both have similar challenges, ideas to share, and solutions to help each other.
I was so encouraged and really glad that I showed up anyway.
Not to mention, I was introduced to what is now my favorite beverage of the summer.
Meet Mighty Swell. Peach, grapefruit or lemon! Pick your flavor and sip it at the pool, in the park, or in your backyard. It’s so light and so refreshing.
I learned to set your GPS to the address you actually know, especially when it’s a new location. I learned I love the heart behind Raven + Lily and that’s why it’s my new fave boutique, and it doesn’t matter your differences, there’s always something to learn.
Have you ever experienced a time when you were glad you showed up anyway?
I’d love to know about it here in the comments. I can’t wait until the fall ATX Blogger Mixer.
