It’s National Best Friends Day which makes me stop and think about the besties of my life.
We may not have met in college and we don’t have pedis together every week. No, they haven’t been life long friends either but they sure have had a significant impact on me.
I think one way that God reveals himself to us is by the people he puts in our lives. And it strikes me that at some of the most pivotal times in my life He has provided me the best. The loyal, the unwavering, the solid, the committed.
Each of the people God has put in my path, He’s put them there at just the right time. They each have loved me no matter the circumstances of my life at the time. In fact they all signed up for friendship knowing the terms up front.
These friends have stayed right by my side. Each has carried some heavy freight for me on the long highway of life, never once complaining about the weight and never breaking under pressure.
They’ve showed up anyway. With a steady hand they comfort me. They answer my call. They close the door to talk. They wipe my tears. They cheer me on even from afar and they message me at just the right time. They wait. They pray. They laugh and listen.
The one thing they all have in common is that they love unconditionally.
To the best friends of my life I say thank you. Thank you for loving me anyway and through it all.
Through the good times and the bad, my best of friends have been along for the ride. They never take the back seat, they ride shotgun and when I ask them to they take the driver’s seat.
My best of friends don’t ride with me for what I can reciprocate, thankfully, because I could always do better. They’re on this ride of life with me because they love.
And that’s why I’m so thankful for their friendship.
Happy Best Friends Day!
