5 On Friday: Rowing, Back Pain & Aleppo

Happy Friday to you! My 5 on Friday series is a post about five things on my mind. I’d love to know what’s on your mind today, just leave me a comment.

It felt like the longest week ever. My schedule was hectic this week and life with a five month old beagle puppy makes it interesting.

Here are the five things on my mind today:

1. Rowing next to cross country skiing is the best calorie burn

I taught my first rowing class this week by accident. I had just taught a step class and the instructor hadn’t arrived for the rowing class. There I was. What a great work out. Rowing combined with boot camp style exercises like squat + clean + press, bicep curls, and burpees.

Some of the best things happen by accident.

2. Best quote of the week

Your attitude belongs to you. No one can change it but you. –Joyce Meyer

3. Back Pain

If you’ve had it, you know back pain can be debilitating. It changes your mood, your appetite, your outlook, everything.

For the past month I’ve experienced low back and sciatic pain along with my self diagnosis of piriformis syndrome. It impacts your entire body especially if you limp around semi hunched over.

I finally found a chiropractor and massage therapist that helped.

4. Aleppo

The horrific humanitarian situation in eastern Aleppo breaks me. Did you see the image of the little girl who was rescued, having been under the rubble from the 4th floor of a building for two days? It’s hard to see. It’s hard to get your head around what is happening especially to innocent children there.

This week 338 people were killed including 100 children.

A convoy of trucks carrying aid to besieged Syrians was attacked, preventing food, blankets and clothing from reaching people in rebel-held areas of Aleppo.

5. Puppy Training

Actually I think it’s me that is in training. My five month old beagle has me up at 1am, 3am and 5:30am. Not to mention the potty training bit she finds it fun to drag everything out of the bathroom in the mornings while mom is attempting to get ready for work. When she gets tired during the day she ‘acts out’ by becoming terror dog.

We’re on the downhill side of teething which is great news! But my arms look like I’ve seen the wrong side of a fork in a dark alley! Yes I’m mom in training.
